Every month we compile a list of students and schools doing great things across our community. We have so many talented students in our area. Wiregrass Parents joins with these families and schools to celebrate their achievements!
Highlands Elementary Archery Team Won the Regional Tournament
We are very proud of our archery team from Highlands Elementary School! The Elementary Team (fourth and fifth grade) won the regional tournament. 8 out of 10 from the elementary boys and girls divisions were Highlands students! The middle school team placed 2nd overall. 6 out of the top 10 middle school girls were from Highlands! Coach Thompson and the team have been practicing after school to prepare. We are so proud of the team!

Science Olympiad Team from Highlands
A group of 24 students from Highlands Elementary School participated in the Wiregrass Area Science Olympiad on March 18, 2023. The students competed in many different science events against five other teams. They won 3rd place in the tournament. Congratulations to the Science Olympiad team from Highlands!
Midland City Elementary Music in Our Schools
Over the past two weeks, students at Midland City Elementary School have gone fishing for music note identification, tossed bean bags to learn the music alphabet, and officially started the ukulele program! Many exciting things are happening for Music in Our Schools this Month!
Students Made Eggs for Dothan Botanical Gardens
Rehobeth TAG students made eggs for Dothan Botanical Gardens. They will be on display through April 9th! Be sure to go by and check them out.
Ozark City Schools Held the Inaugural Community Tour of Schools
On Wednesday, March 15th, Ozark City Schools held the inaugural Community Tour of Schools. Attendees visited each school as well as the Career Academies.
Upon arriving at Lisenby, attendees were greeted by Mr. Barton, Mr. Atwell, and some our Peer Helpers. They toured several classrooms as well as the media center, STEAM room, and music room. We hope they had the chance to see how wonderful our school truly is!
Highlands Elementary Received the Award of March Good Citizen
We are so proud of the students from Highlands Elementary School who received the award of March Good Citizen. The students displayed the character trait of trustworthiness to their peers and teachers. Congratulations to these students! We are proud of you!
Students Learn About Aviation
At South Dale Middle School Mrs. Hatcher’s students learned about aviation thanks to our community partner, Instructor Josh Thomas from the ESCCA Alabama College.

Students had a Field Trip to Wallace Community College’s SIM Clinic
At Wicksburg Elementary Mrs. Deavers’, Mrs. Alley’s, Mrs.Williams’, Mrs. Thomas’s, and Mrs. Brown’s first grade classes had a blast on their field trip to Wallace Community College’s SIM Clinic yesterday! They learned so much about the medical field like what to expect if they ever have to go get an x-ray and what an operating room looks like. They learned about fire safety and germs.
Midland City Elementary Celebrates their AR Goal Week
Midland City Elementary had so much fun celebrating our students that made their 3rd nine weeks AR goal with games and ice cream! This nine week we had a total of 105 students that made their AR goal, 30 more than we had from the second nine weeks. Keep reading so we can have even more to celebrate for the 4th nine weeks!
Mrs. Polumbo’s Class Practiced Creating and Writing
At Hidden Lake, Mrs. Polumbo’s class practiced creating and writing their own cvc words using a fun spring time activity! Students took turns building their words by choosing parts of the flower while their friends wrote the word on their white boards.
